What is conflict coaching?

Let’s face it. Some people are not great at managing conflict. They either avoid the situation and let it get way out of hand, or react poorly and can make things worse.

Conflict coaching provides 1:1 support to help you gain the knowledge, tools, and strategies to navigate conflicts with confidence and productivity.

Sessions focus on specific concerns or conflict in general and are designed to support individuals.

I am trained as a coach and trained in conflict dynamics with a Grad Cert in Conflict Resolution from James Cook University.

What is mediation?

Mediation involves a voluntary, confidential dialogue between the parties in conflict, facilitated by a neutral mediator. The goal is to empower participants to reach a resolution of their dispute through well-informed, mutually agreeable decisions. Workplace mediation is mediation centered in a workplace setting.

Why is workplace mediation beneficial especially to non profit orgs?

Mediation is an effective approach for resolving workplace conflicts and non profits face the same issues for profit companies do but lack the resources much of the time to be able to invest in people issues. The top 3 things in my opinion are that as mediation is impartial it Enhances Communication, encourages open and honest dialogue and helps employees express concerns and understand different perspectives. Reducing Stress and Improving Workplace Morale, by providing a confidential, non judgmental space for conflict resolution to occur and has longer term financial benefits leading to fewer conflicts, minimizing employee turnover, preventing more formal conflict resolution processes.

When do you start a mediation process in the workplace?

Mediation can take place at any stage of a workplace conflict. It can be used proactively before a formal complaint is lodged or as a resolution tool following a formal intervention, such as an investigation. Mediation is also beneficial when employees simply need a trained facilitator to guide discussions, maintain focus, and support constructive outcomes as it is completely impartial.

Is it completely confidential?

Participants will sign an Agreement to Mediate which sets out confidentiality . In some instances in workplace mediation, the organisation has instructed the mediator to mediate and Human Resources may wish to be notified about the mediation process and if any agreements have been reached. This can only be done with the prior consent of all participants before any substantive discussions occur to make sure that it is an open and transparent process.
